The morning started with a little nagging from our 3 friends,
because of lack of coffee and an accident that had blocked the road
just before the big bridge which connects the two parts of the
city, the hallmark of Constantinople and the link between West and
East! Demosthenes, Tom and Costas narrate what they saw on the
route from Istanbul to Trabzon:
"In this part of the route, traffic jam is very common and delay can
be great! Fortunately, it took us little time to get away and
having already entered the highway E-80 Istanbul-Ankara, we stopped
at a gas station for refueling and travel supplies. Here it looks
like Italian landscape, like the province of Tuscany.
After Bolu we left Ankara
and took the road to Samsun. The whole day spent in the Focus,
stopping only to change driver, at shops and petrol stations and to
take a few photos. The road up to Samsun, about 627 km, it is
uphill for several hours and is spread among dense forests and
mountain villages. After that, it descends sharply to reach the
Black Sea (Karadeniz). Thomas drove the last 500 km to
Trabzon. After Samsun, the road follows the southern coastline of
Black Sea, where you see beachside resort towns with modern
planning and infrastructure. People here are very friendly and
always very positive to communicate. In Havsa, a
group of young girls gathered around us, smiling, as we were
shopping from a grocery store. After 14 consecutive hours of
driving, the Focus 1.0 Ecoboost has brought us to Trabzon.
