It was September the 15th 2007 when Colin McRae was killed. It wasn’t a rally accident. The helicopter McRae was piloting crashed near his home. His son and two family friends lost their life’s in this accident.
Gocar caught up with one of his closest friends, David Coulthard: “I have so many good memories of Colin and many involve Colin and Alison together” said David, “like the night we were team mates at the race of champions held in Paris and we retired to the bar and stayed there until only the American team and entourage were still present, Alison sang naughty Scottish songs whilst Colin and I stumbled and danced a wee Scottish jig of some description”
“Anyway the Americans were beaten before we hit the race track through a combination of disbelief at the language used and fear that our dance was in fact just the warm up for some serious bar brawl of which they were the only possible victims”, he added.
David and Colin shared some unforgettable times in Monaco: “Monaco was Colin's home for a period and it wouldn't be big or clever to recall the many modes of transport and our interpretation of how best to ride-drive-hang onto them. I will always remember Colin by his infectious energy for a challenge involving speed, his love of his family and his words, 'we're here for a good time,... not a long time' ”
